With a shop name like Punkin’s Pies, you might envision a shop full of pies. But the sweet-treat shop gets its name from Joanna (Punkin) Wilson, the owner of Punkin’ Pies, located in the AMP (Artisan Marketplace and Food Hall at 16 Tech). At Punkin’s Pies, families can try handmade and gourmet sweet treats like chocolate-covered strawberries, cake pops, caramel apples and lots more.
Wilson grew up cooking and baking with her mother; a specialty of the pair was Sweet Potato Pie for the holidays. She began trying to duplicate the pies in her own home as an adult and with the help of mom, finally perfected it. What began as a small home-based business, grew from making 20 pies to more than 100 over the holidays, and Wilson’s children wanted to get involved. They started creating chocolate-covered strawberry variations, pecan turtles, caramel apples and cheesecakes.
Customers began suggesting flavors and requesting chocolate dipped strawberries for their baby showers, or something special for the Fourth of July. And each time, Wilson delivered. Punkin’s Pies even catered a reception dinner for Mayor Joe Hogsett.
Wilson still creates personalized treats for birthday parties and holidays. And now with her shop at the AMP, she keeps a fresh supply of items for anyone stopping by the food hall.
The AMP officially opened in June 2021, and hosts a variety of food stalls for cutting-edge culinary chefs. The food hall is meant to be a new business incubator, allowing small businesses to begin operations without the high financial risk many take starting out.
The location is perfect for budding businesses, but also for families wanting to try something different, like Punkin’s Pies confections or gourmet peanut butter sandwiches at PB & J Factory.
