It might surprise visitors to learn how many great learning opportunities and fun activities the Indiana State Museum has for children.

Early Childhood Learning at Firefly Landing

Firefly Landing is a learning space specifically dedicated to young museum visitors. Class sizes are very small, allowing lots of one-on-one time with our early childhood specialists.  Here, families with children ages 6 and younger can participate in interactive story time, sensory tables, and hands-on activities.

Firefly Landing at the Indiana State Museum offers several classes each month for children 18 months-6 years. Programs often sell out quickly, so it’s best to book your class early.

Current Featured Exhibit: Cardboard Engineering: Build at City

Find out what can you build with cardboard, colored tape, cardboard cutters, and pencils at “Cardboard Engineering: Build a City,” a new experience at the Indiana State Museum. From May 28 to Oct. 30, 2022, this interactive exhibit invites children and adults to lend their imagination to create a cardboard metropolis.

“Cardboard Engineering” will feature three sections to create the buildings that make up a cityscape; fashion the animals, plants and play spaces for a city park; and devise the transportation to get around the city. In center of the gallery will be tables with the tools and space to work. (Of course, visitors will also be able to work on the floor.)
