Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

If last week’s announcement of a new Dr. Seuss book debuting this summer didn’t get you in a positively Seussical frame of mind, perhaps these fun ideas will. Monday, March 2nd marks what would have been one of the world’s most famous storytellers’ 111th birthday. And while Seuss {whose real name was Theodor Geisel} is no longer weaving his tall tales, there are plenty of ways to celebrate him around Indianapolis in the coming week.

Watch “The Cat In The Hat” come alive onstage at Booth-Tarkington Civic Theater
From games and mischief to Thing One and Thing Two, The Cat brings all sorts of trouble in the Booth Tarkington production of this show. Tickets available for $15/adult and $10/child. Show times can be confirmed and tickets purchased on the Civic Theater website. Sensory-friendly performances are also available.

Enjoy a Seuss storytime with Little Green Bean Boutique
Join this wonderful eastside boutique for their monthly storytime: This month will feature stories from Dr. Seuss and “Seussically”-themed activities and snacks to celebrate.

Seuss-abrate with the Zionsville Library
Kids between the ages of 3-6 are invited to fete Dr. Seuss’ birthday with a storytime featuring some of his most popular titles and what the library calls ‘Seussian activities’. At the time of publication this event had a waitlist but it’s still worth a call to see if spots have opened up! Registration is required.

Sing Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss at the Fishers Library party
The Fishers Library invites friends to celebrate the birthday of ‘everyone’s favorite doctor’ on Monday, 3/2 with games, crafts, stories and more. Not many other details are available on this free program but keep an eye on their website in case others are released. No registration is required.

Celebrate Read Across America Day with Barnes & Noble 
On March 2nd – also known as “Read Across America Day” – all Indianapolis Barnes and Noble store locations will host a free evening storytime plus activities featuring Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham, Oh The Places You’ll Go! and Cat In The Hat titles. Bet your bottom dollar you’ll return home with fun worksheets or activity pages too.
