Books for Youth

In 2006, the Indianapolis Colts formed a partnership with the Indiana Department of Child
Services (DCS) for the Books for Youth program, presented by Cargo Services Inc. Through this program, the Colts and DCS work to provide children in foster care across Indiana with their own personal library of 25 books.

On any given day in Marion County alone, more than 1,200 children are in the foster care
system, and too often they leave their belongings behind when they move. The Colts and DCS wanted to change that by helping place 25 age-appropriate books per child into the hands of foster youth and young adults.

Today, the Colts partner with Children’s Bureau, Inc. to serve foster and underserved youth through the Books for Youth program. To date, they have collected more than 895,000 books for children in foster care across Indiana.

How you can help: For every backpack purchased from the Colts Pro Shop, $5 will be donated to the Books for Youth program to provide a backpack filled with 25 books to an Indiana foster child.
