Fall Fun at Jellystone Park in Bloomington

Labor Day weekend is sold out at the Jellystone Park in Bloomington, but the campground is offering plenty of activities and themed weekends through the end of October.

“We’re hoping to keep Yogi Bear’s Water Zone open for another three weeks,” said Rachael Stine, general manager of the park. “We usually keep it open until the weekend after Labor Day. But this year we hope to keep it open until the following weekend if the weather cooperates.”

Yogi Bear’s Water Zone includes water slides, water blasters and dozens of interactive water features that spray, splash and dump thousands of gallons of water, including a 30-foot tall Giant Hydro Storm that dumps 500 gallons of water.

But even when the water zone shuts down, the park offers plenty of activities, including wagon and train rides, gem mining, pedal karts and, of course, activities with Yogi Bear, Boo Boo and Cindy Bear.

Special themed weekend activities are also planned, including an “Astronauts and Aliens Weekend” Sept. 16 to 18 where kids can create their own candy solar system and build their own rocket ship and enter it in the park’s “Blast Off” contest. Other activities include a Moon Walk Dance Party.

A Fall Harvest / Scarecrow Carnival weekend is scheduled for Sept. 23 to 25 with a carnival bounce house and carnival games; a scarecrow decorating contest; bobbing for apples; pumpkin carving; and a “pumpkin chuckin’ contest.”

Jellystone Park at Lake Monroe is also planning five consecutive pre-Halloween themed weekends. The first weekend, Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, is a “no scare” pumpkin patch weekend that includes a costume contest as well as a family pumpkin painting/carving competition and trick or treating. “We’ll also have campsite decorating contests and give out prizes for the best decorated tent, cabin and RV site.”

The final four weekends in October will be scarier, however, and will include a haunted trail in addition to other Halloween-themed activities.
The park has 10 primitive tent sites and over 80 RV campsites, with ongoing construction to add 20 new RV sites. The park’s 20 cabin rentals include five recently upgraded Hoosier Hideaways, each of which now has new screened-in porches, outdoor furniture, outside barbecue grills and concrete pads for picnic tables. The interiors of these cabins have also been remodeled with new futons, new sinks and kitchen appliances. In addition, the park’s five white pine cabins now feature bunk beds, which are popular with families with kids. Other cabin rentals include eight “Cozy Lodges” and two “Deluxe Lodges,” which are ideal for a larger family with a full kitchen and bathroom.
Jellystone Park in Bloomington is open from the beginning of May through the end of October. For more information and special offers, visit www.lakemonroejellystone.com.
