Event Details

What was is like to live along Eagle Creek long ago? If you have ever wondered about the old buildings and homesites in the park, this day is for you. Activities are free with park admission and there is no need to register.
 
Eagle Creek Heritage Day Schedule, Saturday November 5, 2022
 
At the Ornithology Center:
9:00-12:00  Eagle Creek Park History Hike led by Park Historian, Anne Cecere throughout the park. The length of the hike will be approximately 4 miles and will cover some moderately hilly terrain. The hike will begin and end outside the Ornithology Center. Additional smart phone features will be available.
 
10:00-4:00  Eagle Creek Park Memorabilia Museum
Docent led Historical Tours of the Ornithology Center
Slide Show of 50 years of Eagle Creek Park Activities on the small screen
 
11:00-3:00  Live Old Time Music on the deck
 
At the Earth Discovery Center:
10:00-4:00  Self-guided 20th Century History Hike on nearby trails. Brochures will be available at the Earth Discovery Center desk and yard signs will guide visitors to points of interest. This hike is less than a mile on mostly level terrain. Additional smart phone features will be available.
Slide Show of 50 years of Eagle Creek Park Activities on the small screen near the EDC desk and at times on the big screen in the exhibit hall.
 
1:00 Celebrating 50 Years of Eagle Creek Park video in the exhibit hall. Learn about the history of the reservoir and park. (45 minutes)
 
2:00 Traders Point Memories video produced by George Wilkins, a former resident and filmmaker. See historic photos and hear about the village that was nearest to the park. (1 Hour)
 
3:00 Fitts Family Memories George Fitts, a long-time park employee lived in a house where the Fitts Place shelter now stands. His children shared stories with their families about what it was like to live in the park in the early 1970s.
