Earth Day Fun in Indianapolis

Earth Day is April 21 and Arbor Day is April 28, but did you know April is actually Earth Month? Here’s the lowdown of eco-fun ways to celebrate in Indy!

Earth Day Indiana Festival at Military Park

Date: Saturday, April 21, 11:00 AM- 4:00 PM
Location: Military Park

The Earth Day Indiana Festival highlights over 125 environmental nonprofits, companies and groups. The festival includes a music stage, workshops and food vendors. The event’s mission is to highlight sustainablity, environmental protection and resource conservation. Free. 

Earth Day/Arbor Day Celebration in Westfield 

Date: Saturday, April 22nd, 10:00 am- 2:00 pm
Location: Freedom Trail Park, 500 Deer Walk Trace, Westfield, Indiana 46074

Join us for our annual Arbor Day Tree Seedling Giveaway! An update for this year is that the celebration will be at Freedom Trail Park. In addition to free tree seedling giveaway, this year’s event will offer a volunteer opportunity to clean the prairie at Freedom Trail and learn pro tips for prairie grass maintenance! Free. 

Earth Day Festival Johnson County 

Date: Saturday, April 21, 11:00 am- 3:00 pm
Location: Province Park & Urban Forest, Franklin, 46131

The Johnson County Planet Partners is happy to present our second annual Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 21st.  The Planet Partners is a coalition of city, county, and state government agencies working to protect and manage natural resources throughout Johnson County. This family-friendly event will feature water testing demonstrations, rain barrel information, upcycling projects, games, a mobile free library, tree seedling giveaways, and much more. There will also be a native plant sale ($5/plant) with plants from Eco Logic.

Z’GreenFest 2018

Date: Sunday, April 22, 2:00- 5:00 pm
Location: Zionsville Christian Church, 120 N 9th Street, Zionsville 46077

This year’s Earth/Arbor day festival will take place in the parking lot, near Zionsville’s Rails to Trails walkway with the potential to move the event inside if there is inclement weather.  BCVC is excited to have a new location and new hosts which infuses new energy into the event this year! This event is free and open to the public.  They will have interactive activities for children, educational exhibitors, and live animal demonstrations and discussions.

Earth Day Community Celebration at JCC

Date: Sunday, April 22, Noon- 4:00 pm
Location: Jewish Community Center

The 7th Annual Earth Day Community Celebration co-sponsored by Citizens Energy Group and Indianapolis Power & Light Company returns with more than 65 hands-on, environmentally-friendly activities by almost 50 exhibitors (see list of activities below). This year, help us celebrate Israel at 70.  And plan to stay for the day with live music on the WTTS stage and food trucks. Also the JCC Farmers Market will be open and there will be a community yoga class. Free.

Arbor Day – Tree Giveaway

Date: Friday, April 27, 8:00 am- 4:00 pm
Location: Greenwood Parks and Recreation, 100 Surina Way, Greenwood, Indiana 46143

With a name like Greenwood, our love for trees comes quite naturally. And what better way to give back to our community and environment by giving away 1,000 trees on Arbor Day. Help Renew the air and visit one of our 2 locations to get your trees! The Greenwood Community Center and the City Center parking lot on the corner of Main and Madison. We will be there until 4pm or all the trees are gone, whichever comes first.

Indy Free Tree

Date: Friday, April 27, at 11:00- 2:00 pm
Location: Monument Circle

Get a FREE tree for Arbor Day! Stop by Monument Circle in front of the IPL building for the Indy Free Tree event. Beginning at 11 a.m., 1,000 trees will be distributed to celebrate Arbor Day. Visitors will enjoy FREE pizza and learn about the benefits of trees. Free.

Arbor Day 

Date: April 27 & April 28, 10:00 am- 5:00 pm
Location: Conner Prairie, 13400 Allisonville Road, Fishers, IN 

It’s a perfect time to get outside and explore nature! During Arbor Day, you can talk with foresters and discover what trees grow in Indiana and how they are used, and meet local craftsmen as they demonstrate their skills.Explore the grounds to see how many different types of trees you can identify. How about making your own Treetop Outpost? End your visit by getting your own free tree to take home and plant (while supplies last). Tree Give-A-Way: Pick up a free tree seedling, courtesy of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry. Trees are first come, first served and available while supplies last.

Conner Prairie
Earth & Arbor Day Celebration

Date: Saturday, April 28, 1:00-4:00 PM
Location: Cool Creek Nature Center, 2000-1 East 151st Street, 46033

Join them at the nature center to celebrate Earth and Arbor Day! Hug a tree, learn about native plants and their importance for the entire food chain, and about ways you can make your home and yard more nature friendly. There will be fun activities and crafts. Go on a bug hunt, take a wildflower hike, and head home with some free milkweed plants for monarch caterpillars.

16th Annual Native Plant Sale and Every Day is Earth Day Celebration

Date: Saturday, May 5th 9:00 am- 3:00 pm
Location: Avon Outdoor Learning Center, 7237 E. US Highway 36, 46123

Native plants for all areas of the home garden plus earth-friendly vendors and more!! Hendricks County Master Gardeners on hand to answer questions and help with selections! All proceeds benefit the programming at the OLC.
