Downtown Indy’s Preschool-Friendly Picks for March

The Indianapolis Public Library, Garfield Park Conservatory and several other locations have plenty of fun and engaging events for families with young children. Bring your toddlers and preschoolers downtown this month to learn, play and grow together.

Central Library events

Irish Folk Music: Ennis Clare Band

The Central Library will host the Ennis Clare Band on March 15 at 2 pm for a free performance. Bring the whole family for foot-stomping entertainment and high-energy traditional Irish singing and dancing.

Sea, Sand and Surf: Preschool Science Workshop

Bring your kids to The Central Library on March 20 at 11 am and explore the ocean with the help of Mad Science of Indiana. Spend the day discovering sea creatures and learning about different shells. Kids will also learn how sand is formed and have the chance to create some of their own. Call (317) 275-4100 to register for this free event.

The Garfield Park Conservatory events

Is your child interested in the wonders of nature? Take them to Tree Bud-dies at the Garfield Park Conservatory and Sunken Garden on March 30 at 10 am. This event has just the right mix of education and fun to get your child inspired about the outdoors. Explore the emergence of the new leaves of spring through games, stories and activities.

If your child loves arts and crafts, the Garfield Park Conservatory is also hosting a Gnomes and Fairies Workshop on March 28 at 2 pm. Kids will make small gnome and fairy houses and other figures made out of natural objects as a part of the ongoing Gnome Away From Home series. To register for events, call (317) 327-PARK.

Peewinkle’s Puppet Studio events

Go just a few blocks south of Circle Centre Mall to Peewinkle’s Puppet Studio and watch guest puppeteer Guy Thompson’s kid-friendly version of the classic hand puppet show, Punch and Judy. This whimsical romp is appropriate for all ages and is sure to have your kids laughing in no time, plus the popcorn is free! You’ll have two chances to catch this special one-day-only showing on March 7 with a performance at 10:30 am and another at 1 pm.

Indianapolis Museum of Art events

Head to the Indianapolis Museum of Art on March 21 at 1 pm to celebrate the spring equinox. Spend the day making and flying kites, and also learn specific kite-related skills to help your kites fly higher and stay up longer. Take to the outdoors at the IMA for this FREE event.

With so much to do, be sure to take advantage of these fun activities with your family this March!
