Down Syndrome Indiana is celebrating 20 years of walking together for Down syndrome with their annual Buddy Walk to be held Saturday, Oct. 14 at White River State Park.
Down Syndrome Indiana is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with Down syndrome from infancy through adulthood. DSI is supported by a dedicated Board of Directors, a small staff, and numerous volunteers. The programs and services of the organization are supported totally by individual and corporate donations, grants and special events. Down Syndrome Indiana does not receive government funding. Buddy Walk® is the most widely recognized public awareness event for the Down syndrome community. Locally, it is the largest fundraising and awareness event for Down Syndrome Indiana. Buddy Walk® is a family-friendly event open to all children and adults with Down syndrome, their families, friends and thousands of local supporters. The Buddy Walk® has three primary goals:
· To promote acceptance & inclusion of people with Down syndrome
· To raise funds locally and nationally for education, research and advocacy programs
· To enhance the position of the Down syndrome community, enabling us to positively influence local and national policy and practice
As a direct result of event sponsorships, team fundraising and generous public donations, Down Syndrome Indiana is able to continue providing New Parent Packets, educational resources, informational programs, parent support networks, and social events for individuals with Down syndrome.
