Grab a group of friends or your partner and sign up for one of Conner Prairie’s Hearthside Suppers, a special program that takes place during the winter months. This hands-on food adventure lets guests cook an authentic 1800s meal hearthside in the William Conner House, dine together family-style, and learn about traditional dining customs.

About Conner Prairie’s Hearthside Suppers

Hearthside Suppers is a months-long series that celebrates historic foodways, traditional hearth cooking, and the fellowship of the communal table. Presented in candlelight by costumed interpreters in the 1823 William Conner House, this program offers guests a unique and interactive one-of-a-kind experience.

The class invites guests to take part in an entertaining evening with costumed interpreters. Guests will arrive just in time for a light appetizer, then lend a hand with the final preparations of the meal. Recipes are from 1800s cookbooks, and feature ingredients Hoosiers might have used during the winter months, including root vegetables, sausages and breads.

During a Hearthside Suppers class, you might churn butter, grind coffee, prepare the vegetables, or other kitchen tasks. Through work, conversation and play, you’ll learn about 19th-century food and cooking techniques. Then, after receiving instruction in proper etiquette, settle in and enjoy a delicious supper by candlelight, followed by 19th-century parlor games and dessert.
