Best Spots for Tea Parties and Afternoon Tea in Indianapolis

Feeling a little fancy? Well then: Pinkies up! We’ve found some great places around Indianapolis to enjoy tea time with kids. All of these Indy shops and restaurants offer afternoon tea menus and tea parties, and best of all, most offer special kids tea menus tailored specifically for little ones.

Afternoon tea is special and requires some advance planning. Reservations are typically required for afternoon tea, so call to reserve a specific date and time.

Cake Bake Shop

6515 Carrollton Ave., Indianapolis

Tea time: Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Cake Bake Shop has two locations — Broad Ripple and Carmel — and offers an afternoon tea at both. Their Afternoon Tea for Children (for kids ages 10 and younger) comes with scones served with classic English clotted cream, as well as peanut butter and jam finger sandwiches, and ham & brie and turkey & gruyére sandwiches. You will also be served a variety of mini desserts. Kids can choose from either Dammann Frères tea or Belgian hot chocolate with whipped cream.

L.S. Ayres Tea Room at Indiana State Museum

650 W. Washington St., Indianapolis

Located on the second level of the Indiana State Museum, the L.S. Ayres Tea Room is available to rent by private dining groups of 15+ guests year-round. You and your party can indulge in favorites like tea-time sandwiches, miniature desserts and more in a beautiful and private setting. Around the holidays, this area-famous tea room offers public dining and special events.

Rustic Root Tea Room

626 Main St, Beech Grove
Tea time: Anytime during business hours

Rustic Root offers a Princess Tea for kids 12 and younger, which includes a choice of tea or sparkling lemonade, two sandwiches to choose from, a cup of fruit and a spread of sweet treats. The cost for this kid-friendly tea time experience is $12 per person. You can also add a tiara for $2 extra! The Grand Tea Time offers a bigger spread for $21 per person, and includes three teas, two sandwich choices, scone with clotted cream, specialty bread and a variety of sweet treats.

Monthly Princess Tea: Prepare for an enchanting afternoon of fairy tales come to life at the Princess Tea Parties! Rustic Root Tea Room works with kingdoms far and wide to bring only the most famous princesses to the tea room. Attendees are encouraged to dress up and partake in an extraordinary evening they won’t soon forget.

Sassafras Tea Room

229 North Madison Avenue, Greenwood
Tea time: Tuesday-Friday, 2:30-4 pm; Saturday, 3-4 pm

Sassafras Tea Room offers a Duchess Tea, which includes two teas, scones, three sandwiches and a tower of treats for $21 per person. The Princess Tea is a smaller version, and includes one tea, scones, a sandwich and treats for $12 per person.

Tea time: 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on select days

Serenity is open on select days during the month, so check their website to see when they are offering tea time. Their Princess Tea Service is $18 for adults and $8 for children 8 and younger, and offers two sandwiches, one scone, strawberry, four tea treats and one tea. The Duchess Tea Service is $24 and $10 for ages 8 and younger, and is a larger version of the Princess Tea Service.

Twigs & Tea

Tea Time: Tues.-Saturday from 1-3 pm

Experience the elegance of European-style Afternoon Tea at Twigs & Tea. You will be served selections of scones, finger sandwiches, seasonal desserts and more. Afternoon Tea at Twigs & Tea is available by reservation only, from 1-3 pm, Tuesday through Saturday.

Tilly’s Tea Room at Saks Fifth Avenue

Tea time: Anytime during business hours

Tilly’s Tea Room offers a Princess Tea for children ages 12 and younger, which includes heart-shaped sandwiches, a scone with fresh clotted cream and strawberry jam, two mini desserts and a ”pot of tea,” which can be either hot tea, or milk, apple juice or orange juice for non-tea drinkers. You will also find a Kids Mocktail on the menu, which is pink lemonade, whipped cream and sprinkles served in a champagne glass.
