Summer Fun for Families at Victory Field

Summer is the perfect time to take in a baseball game. If you haven’t been to Victory Field to watch the Indianapolis Indians baseball team in action, then put it on your summer to-do list! There are so many family-friendly events happening before, during and after the game that will keep kids and parents entertained for hours.

My family and I went to see the Indianapolis Indians on a Sunday, which also happened to be Kids Eat Free Day. Every Sunday, all kids ages 14 and under receive a voucher for a free hot dog, bag of chips and a bottle of water with paid admission. Score!

Sundays at Victory Field seem to be geared toward kids and families, as each Sunday brings new fun characters to meet and activities to try (meet Daniel Tiger on Aug. 4!). Also on Sundays, kids who belong to the Knot Hole Kids Club get to run around the bases after each Sunday home game. When we visited, every kid (club member or not) was invited on the field to run the bases. My kids were very excited and smiling the whole time! It’s making me think we should join the Knot Hole Kids Club, as we’d also get a free shirt and kids tickets to all home games — all for $17.

But it’s not just Sundays when families can have a blast. This season on Saturdays, superheroes will drop by the stadium for a visit (Spider Man on July 6 and The Hulk on August 3, among others). And Fridays are pretty special too. Each Friday after the evening game, you can see an awesome firework display!

If you haven’t been to an Indianapolis Indians baseball game with little ones in tow, here are some tips that you should know before you go.

Look for the Lawn

One of the more popular areas for families is lawn seating, where you can stretch out and run around (when you’re not glued to the game, of course). You can bring your own food in a cooler, and blankets are OK to bring, but lawn chairs and umbrellas are not permitted.Summer Fun for Families at Victory Field

Keep Cool

The stadium is set up with misting stations around the plaza area to cool you off, but you’ll want to bring a hat and sunscreen. Don’t be like me and forget the sunscreen, then walk around the stadium looking for some — they don’t sell it here! (Or, at least, I couldn’t find any!)

Babies Are a Bonus

All kids ages 2 years and under get in to the stadium for free!

A Room Just for Mamas

One of the newer amenities to Victory Field is the Mother’s Room, which offers a quiet place for moms to care for and nurse their babies in privacy. In this space, you’ll find a comfortable chair, changing station and wash area. You can find the Mother’s Room behind section 117.

Changing Stations for All

You can find baby changing stations in ALL restrooms at Victory Field, not just the women’s restrooms. Hooray!

Not Just Hot Dogs and Cotton Candy

Part of the fun of going to a ball game is eating as much peanuts and Cracker Jack as your stomach can handle, but sometimes you want food options that skew a little more toward the healthy side. Fans can head to Section 117 to find vegan and gluten-free foods, as well as snacks like guacamole, hummus and pretzels, veggie hot dogs, vegan black bean burgers, Naked juice and more.

Whether your little ones are baseball fans or just fans of getting outside and having fun, a trip to Victory Field will be a fun outing they won’t soon forget.
