Out and About: Westfield, IN

After saying farewell to the Christmas decor last week, I was eager to fill in those “empty” spaces throughout my home with fresh decor for the new year. While a big furniture and decor shopping spree sure sounds wonderful, many of us are still recovering from the holiday crunch on the pocketbook. But wait, that doesn’t mean the house has to be put on hold. It’s time to think differently this year. It’s time to think vintage.

Downtown Westfield, IN is home to what is affectionately referred to as “Antique Alley.” Tucked back by Big Hoffa’s BBQ on US 32, you’ll find three large antique shops packed to the brim with treasures waiting to be discovered. Nestled in the middle of the three, antique queen Sue Roudebush is waiting to help you find the perfect piece at Mercantile on Main.

With over 16 years of experience in the antique biz, Sue is passionate about “pickin” and loves to help her customers take a trip down memory lane. “We love to offer items that bring back memories of what our customers’ parents or grandparents had in the past. You don’t know how many times I hear the comment, “My grandma had that same item and I want one too!” says Roudebush. “It really warms the heart.”

Mercantile on Main takes pride in offering their customers antique furniture, home decor, retro and re-furbished treasures. And the best part? You’ll find unique treasures at a price you can’t beat.

I’d say my trip to “Antique Alley” in Westfield was a success. For a grand total of $55 I came home with a small kitchen island, a vintage clothing rack, a few old decorative books along with a variety of other trinkets and treasures for my home. However, I did leave behind a charming $15 wooden ironing board at Mercantile on Main. I think it’s calling my name for a little spot in my home….that is, if you don’t stop in and snatch it up first!

Rather than putting the house off for a few more months, take a twist on your decor and think vintage this year. After all, the latest home magazines remind me that “old” is the new “new.”
