As a Center Director, I talk with parents every week who are trying to figure out how to make summer work for their families. Between work schedules, sports, family trips, and keeping children active and engaged, summer break can quickly feel more stressful than relaxing.
And in the Indy area, families have their own unique challenges. Long commutes across I-465, busy workdays, and unpredictable Midwest weather can make juggling multiple camps and childcare arrangements especially difficult. Many parents tell me they are tired of piecing together half-day programs, backup babysitters, and transportation plans just to cover a normal workweek.Â

That is why more Indy families are choosing simpler summer solutions at KinderCare Learning Centers.
Parents today are looking for programs that fit real life. They want full-day care, flexible scheduling, and activities their children genuinely enjoy, all in one trusted place. Having worked as a summer camp counselor earlier in my career, I know first-hand how bouncing around camps can be hard. For many families, having consistency throughout the summer helps reduce stress for both parents and children.
Children thrive when summer includes both structure and fun. At KinderCare, our summer programming is designed to keep children active, curious, and social while school is out. Fun, summer themes, hands-on activities, creative projects, outdoor play, and group games help keep each day fresh and engaging.

Families especially value opportunities for children to stay active during the summer months. Whether families are spending weekends at Eagle Creek Park, visiting the Indianapolis Zoo, or enjoying neighborhood festivals and farmers markets, parents want children to continue learning and exploring all summer long.
Convenience matters, too. Working parents often tell me the hardest part about summer is managing the gaps between programs. Half-day camps can create complicated pickup schedules and additional childcare costs. Families are increasingly looking for one reliable place where their child can spend the entire day learning, playing, and making friends.
Affordability is also top of mind for many Indiana families. Summer expenses can add up quickly, especially for households with multiple children. For many families, Indiana’s Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) subsidy program can help make summer child care more accessible. Following the state’s recent $200 million reinvestment in CCDF, more families are once again able to access financial support for child care, including during the summer months. At KinderCare, our staff helps families navigate the CCDF application process, maintain eligibility, and access translation support when needed so parents can focus on finding care that works for their family.

At the end of the day, most Indianapolis parents are looking for the same thing: a summer that feels exciting for their children and less overwhelming for themselves.
Sometimes the best summer solution is simply finding one place you can trust.Â
