The Teal Pumpkin Project

You may have noticed some oddly colored pumpkins popping up on your neighbors’ front porches this fall – teal pumpkins to be exact. These are not the result of some mysterious cross-pollination experiment. The households displaying these unique pumpkins are taking part in the Teal Pumpkin Project™ by offering non-food treats that are safe for all trick-or-treaters. The Teal Pumpkin Project was launched by Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) in 2014 in an effort to raise awareness of food allergies and promote a safer and more enjoyable Halloween for all.

Purchase non-food treats to hand out

For a list of suggested non-food treats, click here. Or purchase the official Team Pumpkin Project Trick-Or-Treat Goodie Bag filled with a fun selection of non-food treats, a pumpkin stencil, support poster, cool trick-or-treat bag, and more.

Display your pumpkin

Simply paint a pumpkin teal and display it prominently (hint: paint a craft pumpkin with acrylic paint so it’s reusable year after year). You can also print out a downloadable sign to let people know you are offering non-food treats.

Such a simple gesture can make a world of difference for a child with food allergies this Halloween.
