Quality, Convenience and Hot Cocoa: Why Gateway Hancock Health is a Great Medical Facility for Families

Quality health care is one of the top priorities in my family. We try to do the things we’re supposed to: eat a balanced diet, exercise, prioritize sleep. But despite my best efforts, as a mom of two boys, I’ve been in and out of doctor’s offices and medical facilities my fair share. So when I was invited to visit Gateway Hancock Health to check out their facility, I was intrigued. It’s just another medical facility, right? I’ve seen them all before. Not so! Walking around the building and meeting the dedicated staff, I got a sense that things were different at Gateway Hancock Health. Here’s my take-away after visiting this facility on Indy’s eastside, and some of the main reasons why I think it is great.

It’s one of the more cost-effective medical facilities in Central Indiana.

Labs and imaging at Gateway Hancock Health are up to 50% lower than what you’d pay for a similar-quality test at a hospital. That is great news for families who are on high-deductible health plans, are uninsured or underinsured, or pay out of pocket. In this economy, every little bit you save on medical expenses helps.

They offer a range of services all in one building.

You can visit immediate care, see your family physician, get X-rays or CT scans, get your labs done and lots more, all in one building. Because you’re not having to go to different facilities to get these things done, you save a lot of time and effort, which is a big relief if you’re toting kids around. And bonus: Immediate care is open late Monday through Friday (until 8 p.m.), and also open on weekends and all holidays except Christmas!

It’s easy to get to.

The facility is right off Interstate 70 on the eastside of Indianapolis, and only 15 minutes or less from New Palestine, Greenfield, McCordsville, Lawrence and Irvington.

Gateway Hancock Health has all of the important stuff down pat. Now, here are some of the smaller — but no less important! — ways it blew me away.

They have a complimentary coffee and hot cocoa bar in the waiting room.

Yes, you can make yourself a yummy hot beverage while you’re waiting! I’m not above using hot cocoa as a bribe to get my children to sit patiently at the doctor’s office, so this would definitely come in handy.

There’s a charging station.

Why is my phone’s battery always at 3% when an emergency happens and I need to take my children to the doctor? But no worries here — just use the complimentary charging station in the waiting room.

The place emanates good vibes.

Gateway Hancock Health has taken steps to ensure that visitors’ physical needs AND mental/emotional needs are being met at each visit. The whole facility just radiates calm and healing. The main waiting room has high glass windows that bring in abundant natural light. There are calming sounds of birds chirping in the OB/GYN room. Kids can play tic-tac-toe on the exam table paper (hooray for distractions!). All of these little details add up to make your doctor’s visit as pleasant as possible.
