Lawrence Central is a public high school in the MSD of Lawrence Township serving approximately 2,500 students in northeast Indianapolis. At Lawrence Central:

Does Lawrence Central offer afterschool activities?

Lawrence Central offers participation in all IHSAA sanctioned sports and some additional club sports, including Lacrosse. Lawrence Central has a nationally ranked marching band in our Marching Pride of Lawrence Township as well as numerous choral, orchestral, dance, and other performing art ensembles/teams. Through these extracurricular activities students gain valuable experience that they carry with them through high school, college, and beyond.

In addition to our award winning performing arts and athletics programs, Lawrence Central offers numerous opportunities for students to be involved in the school community. Through the student council, Best Buddies, Key Club, LC Dance Marathon, and other clubs students gain experience by participating in and leading different student organizations.

Is there a uniform or dress code?

Enrollment at Lawrence Central High School is approximately 2,500 students. Class sizes vary depending on course type and subject matter. Lawrence Central aims to keep class sizes low by offering a variety of courses available to all students on both the Lawrence Central and Lawrence North campus, as well as through the career and technical education available at McKenzie Center for Innovation & Technology.

Homework is subject matter dependent, and is generally consistent across a curricular department. Students should expect to be assigned homework. Many students build in a study hall period to allow time for additional support or homework completion.

Available to all students at Lawrence Central High School, the McKenzie Center for Innovation & Technology (MCIT) offers electives featuring state-of-the-art equipment and materials in the classrooms and labs. Offering 15 national certifications, MCIT embraces rigorous academic programs and diverse technological career courses, which prepare its college and career-bound students for post-secondary education, military service, workplace entry, or advanced technical training in a variety of business, medical, and industrial fields. What are Lawrence Central’s safety policies?

At Lawrence Central High School, keeping students safe is the top priority. During school hours, external doors remain locked and security personnel are stationed at building entrances. Lawrence Central requires that students carry a school ID and submit to random metal detection by full time security officers stationed at the building upon entry as a proactive and precautionary measure.

What extra safety measures is Lawrence Central taking during the COVID-19 pandemic?

The COVID-19 pandemic has placed unprecedented stressors and restrictions on schools across the country. Through all of this uncertainty, we will remain devoted to our values and our mission of educating all students through innovation and dedication. The district has implemented enhanced cleaning protocols, mandated the wearing of masks, enforced social distancing, and restricted school visitors to help protect students and staff. Students at the secondary level are currently operating a hybrid model per the Marion County Public Health Department, with no more 50% of the student body on campus at any given time.
