IMS Museum To Reopen!

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is set to welcome guests back with a grand reopening on Wednesday, April 2, after an extensive transformation that has reimagined the museum experience. Once closed to the public in November 2023, the museum has been completely revamped to offer visitors an expanded and immersive journey into motorsport history.

A New Era of Exploration

With a general admission ticket, visitors will now have full access to 40,000 square feet of additional exhibit and display space. The transformation includes areas that were previously off-limits, such as the lower level—once reserved for select tours—and a newly added mezzanine featuring rare artifacts on display for the very first time. This expansion not only broadens the museum’s footprint but also enhances the storytelling of the IMS legacy, making it a must-visit destination for motorsport enthusiasts and history buffs alike.

Celebratory Ribbon-Cutting and Exclusive Previews

The grand reopening will be celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 2. Ahead of the public launch, IMS Museum members and donors are invited to an exclusive preview event on Tuesday, April 1.

New Pricing and Membership Opportunities

In addition to unveiling the expanded space, the IMS Museum is rolling out a new pricing structure designed to enhance accessibility and value. Beginning April 2, general admission tickets will be priced as follows:

  • Adults: $25
  • Seniors (55+): $23
  • Veterans: $18
  • Youth (ages 5-16): $18
  • Children (5 and under): Free

Tickets go on sale starting March 4, providing time for visitors to secure their spots for the reopening.

Complementing the new ticket prices, the museum is also introducing an updated membership program focused on families and regular visitors. The new membership tiers include:

  • Individual Plus Membership: $125 (One individual + one guest)
  • Family/Grandparent Membership: $175 (Covers two adults plus all children or grandchildren living in the home)
  • Family/Grandparent Plus Membership: $215 (Covers two adults, all children or grandchildren living in the home, plus two additional guests)

For the first year, current members will be renewed at their previous rate, ensuring a smooth transition into the updated program. Additionally, recognizing the importance of education, the museum offers an annual discounted membership of $25 for students and teachers (K-12/college/vocational) with valid ID.

Commitment to Community and Education

Operating as a public, non-profit organization separate from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the IMS Museum reinvests its admission revenue to cover operating costs and support a wide range of educational and community programs. These include:

  • Access Pass: In collaboration with institutions such as The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Conner Prairie, and Newfields, qualified families can register for this membership, which allows them to purchase general admission tickets for just $5.
  • Free Community Days: Guests can enjoy free admission on select days throughout the year, with dates announced annually.
  • Blue Star Program: Active-duty military members and their immediate family receive free general admission year-round with a valid military ID.
  • Bank of America’s Museums On Us: Visitors with qualifying Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, or Bank of America Private Bank (US Trust) credit or debit cards can receive free general admission on the first full weekend of every month (advanced ticketing required).

These initiatives underscore the museum’s dedication to making motorsport history accessible to all, while providing unique educational opportunities for students nationwide.
