Did you know that Noblesville is home to the world’s only toy hospital?
Heather Ibey, daughter of Randy Ibey, founder of Randy’s Toy Shop on 9th Street in Noblesville, is Indiana’s very own Doc McStuffins. People visit the toy shop every day to get toys appraised or fixed, or just take a walk down memory lane.
“My dad started the shop 34 years ago as a hobby,” Heather says. “He enjoyed fixing his own toys. And then everybody else wanted him to fix theirs, too.”
The oldest toy that Randy ever repaired was a tin toy scene of arctic explorers and a polar bear from the 1880s. Heather said they receive requests from around the world for antique toy repairs.
When you visit the shop, you are not going to see new toys. That is what sets Randy’s Toy Shop apart. My own children were amazed when looking at the very low-tech gear that mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, and even great-grandma and great-grandpa used to play with.
Heather has brought the toy shop into the 21st century, offering popular Toy Talks on their Facebook page (facebook.com/RandysToyShop) every Friday. You can visit Randy’s Toy Shop every weekday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but they are closed on weekends.
