In honor of National Caramel Day (April 5), the iconic caramel brand, Werther’s Original, has ignited a national debate about how to pronounce caramel. They’re bringing the debate to voting headquarters in Carmel, Indiana, and asking the community to cast their vote in the Great Caramel Day debate: is it pronounced ker-uh-muhl or kar-muhl?
To celebrate the food holiday, Carmel Mayor James Brainard will officially change the town’s name and pronunciation to Caramel (ker-uh-muhl) and Indianapolis-born celebrity Trista Sutter and Carmel-born former NFL player Mark Herrmann will be on-site to join in the fun.
But wait there’s more! Along with asking candy lovers to cast their vote, Werther’s is inviting the community to a Caramel Celebration at the Arts & Design District. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., attendees will enjoy free caramel-inspired games, sweet caramel treats and awesome prizes.
It doesn’t get much sweeter than that!
