Christmas at the Zoo: Sensory-Friendly Evening

On December 3 and December 17 starting at 5 p.m., the Zoo offers Sensory-Friendly Evenings as part of Christmas at the Zoo. During these nights, staff lower sound levels, adjust lighting, and limit strong scents to create a calmer environment. Families can still enjoy the twinkling pathways and evening animal viewing, but at a gentler pace that feels more comfortable.

Guests may request free sensory bags at the Visitor’s Services Center when they enter, and quiet rooms are available for anyone who needs a break. These evenings suit families with children who prefer reduced stimulation, including those with sensory processing differences, as well as caregivers looking for a softer holiday outing. Visitors can expect the same seasonal atmosphere—cool night air, soft lights, and time together—without the usual bustle. The Zoo hosts the experience across the grounds, with support on hand to help families navigate their visit.
