Carmel, Indiana, was named the No. 2 Best Small City in the U.S. by Livability and the No. 1 Best Place to Live in Indiana by Niche. The people are what continue to make this growing city a premier destination, but the places and events are a big part of its appeal too.

What’s Happening?
With more than 100 public events held throughout the year, there is never a shortage of things to do in Carmel. The city’s central core is made up of three distinct districts: the Arts & Design District, Midtown, and City Center. Each one offers its own unique setting during festival season.

The Arts & Design District
This area is a designated Indiana Cultural District, a distinction given to places with a high concentration of cultural assets. It is the heart of Carmel’s creative scene and hosts annual favorites like Carmel on Canvas, a plein air paint event, the world-class Carmel International Arts Festival, and the always spectacular Artomobilia.
These events highlight both local talent and the beautiful, gallery-lined streets of this nationally recognized district. It is also home to the pre-Independence Day event Americana on Main, which this year will celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

Midtown Plaza and Monon Boulevard
The award-winning Midtown district, with its urban industrial feel, is a favorite for families. The plaza features restaurants, retail, and outdoor play areas, including ping-pong and pool tables, along with large wooden swings. The turfed gathering space is also the go-to spot for Allied Solutions’ Movies at Midtown and the Midtown Block Party.
Because the Monon Greenway runs directly through the center of Midtown, it is also a natural starting point for cycling enthusiasts. During the summer, families can join the Bike Carmel Family Fun Rides. These low-speed, casual rides are a great way for kids and parents to enjoy the city’s path system together.

City Center
Home to Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts and Carter Green, City Center is the perfect setting for the Carmel Farmers Market and CarmelFest during the summer months. As the seasons change, the district continues to serve as a festival hub, hosting major celebrations like Diwali.
