Event Details

Celebrate World Wetlands Day (and Groundhog Day!) in the parks by going on a hibernation hunt with us! We will explore the wetland habitats in Central Park. Starting in Central Park’s East Woods, we will explore the Carmel Creek watershed as we walk along the trails and note habitat structures through the woods and along the creek banks. We will then explore the western side of Central Park to walk around the lagoons to look for areas where hibernation may be taking place. You’ll learn what animals do during the winter, test your winter wildlife tracking skills, and make your own prediction on whether spring is on its way or winter is here to stay.
