Parents’ night out meets Halloween at the zoo. On Saturday, Oct. 3, from 8–11 p.m., Brewfari takes over the Indianapolis Zoo for an adults-only night of beer, cider and spirits, live entertainment, animal chats and Halloween activities. It’s basically ZooBoo without the kids, plus quite a few tasting stations.
Guests can wander the zoo’s main pathways after hours, stop for samples from breweries, cideries and distilleries from Central Indiana and beyond, catch animal demonstrations and show up in costume if the mood strikes. All guests must be 21 or older.
Brewfari at the Indianapolis Zoo
Brewfari, presented by Metazoa Brewing Co., is the Indianapolis Zoo’s adults-only Halloween event and a fundraiser organized by the Indy Zoo Council. The group has hosted Brewfari since 2013, raising more than $713,000 for animal care and conservation programs.
Unlike a regular evening at the Indianapolis Zoo, Brewfari is built around tasting stations and after-hours entertainment. The event runs rain or shine, and the evening is strictly for guests 21 and older.

What to do at Brewfari
- Sample beer, cider and spirits: Participating breweries, cideries and distilleries set up along the zoo’s pathways for tastings throughout the evening.
- Catch animal chats and demonstrations: Animal chats and demonstrations are scheduled throughout the evening.
- Listen to DJ Lockstar: DJ Lockstar provides live entertainment in the Bicentennial Pavilion.
- Get a psychic reading: Psychic readings take place inside the Ascension St. Vincent Dolphin Gallery.
- Dress up: Costumes are encouraged, and Brewfari includes a costume contest for guests who want to commit to the Halloween part of the evening.
Costumes are encouraged
No costume is required to attend Brewfari, but this is a Halloween party, so showing up dressed for the occasion will not make anyone the weird one. Guests who want to take it a little further can enter the Brewfari costume contest.
