Gaming and Virtual Reality Experiences for Families in Indy

Gaming isn’t what it used to be. While Super Mario Bros. are still around, of course, gaming systems and the games kids are playing these days have become more complex, high-tech and realistic.

One branch of the gaming tree includes virtual reality. What was once a sci-fi, futuristic — not to mention very expensive — experience, is now available to the masses with virtual reality arcade sites popping up across the state. Most experiences are offered in 15-minute increments or full day passes. Check the website for hours of operation and availability.

The Virtual Galaxy

Avon, IN

Just west of Indy, the Virtual Galaxy offers dozens of virtual games ranging from Spider-Man to cooking in the kitchen. Parents can participate or sit back and watch as their children don a VR headset and begin swinging their arms in the air and “grabbing” items with their hands. To the person playing a VR game, it’s like they are in the game world itself, and they have the ability to maneuver and change the course of the game with their actions. Virtual Galaxy also offers a full menu of hamburgers, chicken strips, sandwiches and more for those that want to stop by for a quick meal, or stay for several hours while your party participates.

Press Play Gaming Lounge

Brownsburg, IN

At Press Play, the entire family can get involved with interactive games, like Foam Wars (think laser tag with Nerf guns) and BEAM, an interactive playroom for the younger kids, allowing them to jump on balloons, stomp on fruit and much more. However, Press Play’s claim to fame is the newest, wireless virtual reality technology on the market and a list of brand-new games along with some classics. They also have a menu of wings, pizza and more.

Evolution VR

Greenfield, IN

Evolution offers virtual reality games for all ages, ranging from puzzles to educational, and of course, active fighting and first-person shooter games. You can play in your own personal pod or join a group for team play. They also offer a family deal for four people, including soda and snacks for a full hour of play. Unique to Evolution: They offer virtual reality training for Indiana law enforcement officers, simulating scenarios and raising situational awareness.

Derezzed VR

Noblesville, IN

Try one of the dozen virtual reality escape rooms at Derezzed VR or join a family party game: one person has the VR headset on, while the rest of the group joins in on their mobile device. Derezzed VR also offers immersive events at festivals and birthday parties. Those that want the classic VR game can find that at Derezzed, as well.
