Kwanzaa was established in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, inspired by first-fruits festivals in Southern Africa. The celebration runs from December 26 to January 1 and emphasizes seven principles: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), and others. Iconic symbols include the Kinara (seven-candle holder), Mazao (crops), and Kikombe cha Umoja (unity cup).
