If your child slows down every time they pass a construction site, Avon has an event worth adding to the calendar. Dirt Works! gives kids the chance to climb on construction equipment, dig in a giant dirt pile and get an up-close look at the machines that usually stay behind the fence.

Families can explore real construction equipment, watch demonstrations and let kids climb, dig and play in a giant dirt area designed just for the event. Children are also encouraged to bring their favorite toy dump truck, excavator or bulldozer to use in the dirt pile. Organizers say the event is designed for all ages, including adults who still have a soft spot for Tonka trucks.
Good to Know Before You Go
The event is held on the concert lawn inside Blue Heron Park, formerly known as Avon Town Hall Park. The closest parking is at Avon Parkside Church of the Nazarene, with a short paved walking trail leading to the event. Since much of the fun involves digging and dirt, expect kids to get a little messy, so dress accordingly.
