Our Day Early Learning Center for Infants & Toddlers is one of our newest centers. It focuses exclusively on implementing best practices with respect to the development and care of children ages 6 weeks to 36 months, including through the implementation of a model early childhood and family support program called Early Head Start. Located just one mile west of Methodist Hospital, we are conveniently located for families working at IU Health, as well as families who work at or attend IUPUI and Ivy Tech, and families who live on the near-West side of Indianapolis.
The center offers several unique features, including a practice where teachers and children stay together during the child’s whole time at the center. Lasting relationships are particularly important for a young childss development and the practice we have adopted allows strong bonds to form between children, their teachers and parents. Strong relationships facilitate a young child’s thinking, risk-taking, confidence and involvement.
The center is a Paths to QUALITY Level 3 location and an Early Head Start site. Early Head Start is a model early childhood program for infants and toddlers that offers high-quality classroom teaching, strong family support and engagement and coordinated health services. Uniquely, the model calls for teachers to visit the child’s home, learn more about their unique family context and reflect that in their classroom approach and family engagement efforts. The center is financially supported by many community partners, but especially the federal Office of Head Start and Office of Child Care and Indiana’s Office of Early Childhood and Out of School Learning.
