Q&A with the Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation:

What makes Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation summer camps unique?

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation has offered summer camps for over a decade. We’re the experts in summer fun! Campers can explore their interests in our 12 themed camps.

What activities are offered at Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation summer camps?

Each camp offers a unique experience and gives campers the opportunity to take field trips, explore The Waterpark at the Monon Community Center, and enjoy themed activities every week.

What is the camper-to-counselor ratio?

This varies by camp, but it is never more than 1-to-15.

How much time do the campers spend outside?

This varies by camp, but fresh air is a big focus across all camps, especially for 2021. If you’re looking for a camp all about the outdoors, check out Move to Improve, Outdoor Explorers and The Summer Experience!

Does Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation provide lunch/snacks or do parents need to provide them?

Lunch and snacks are not provided. Daily checklists are provided for each camp in our Summer Camp Guide.

What is the typical daily schedule for campers?

While the daily schedule for each camp may differ, you can expect the following: themed activities, lunch/snack, time outdoors (weather permitting) and free play.

How old are the counselors and how are they trained?

Counselors must be 16 years old or older to apply. They receive multiple trainings including CPR/AED and First Aid, Stewards of Children, and Crisis Prevention Intervention. This year we’re also implementing Covid-related trainings for our staff, including camper health/symptom assessments, emergency preparedness, PPE protocol and enhanced cleaning procedures.

What accommodations are made for campers with special needs?

We have a full-time inclusion supervisor dedicated to our summer camp program. Our inclusion supervisor will work with each camper and their family to assess modification needs and offer options for a successful summer.

What are you doing to keep campers safe this year?

We take our campers’ safety very seriously. All Covid health and safety information can be found in our Summer Camp Guide, but here are a few of our procedures:

1. All campers and staff are required to wear cloth face coverings when physical distancing is not feasible.
2. Campers and staff will receive daily health screenings.
3. Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation will provide contact tracing.
