Q&A with Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School:

What makes Brebeuf unique?

Brebeuf Jesuit works to develop men and women for others. By means of the 450-year-old Jesuit tradition, our students continue to strive for beyond what is expected. Brebeuf Jesuit students refer to this ultimate goal of their education using the Ignatian creed “AMDG” – Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam – “for the Greater Glory of God.” Brebeuf’s caring faculty guide students to succeed by attaining the Grad at Grad goals of becoming: Open to Growth, Intellectually Competent, Loving, Religious, and Committed to Promoting Justice.

What is Brebeuf’s age/grade range?

Does Brebeuf offer financial assistance?

Brebeuf Jesuit is committed to educating students based on their ability to learn rather than their ability to pay. We utilize the Facts Grant and Aid Assessment (FACTS) to manage the financial aid process. FACTS helps Brebeuf assess a family’s ability to pay school costs and make objective and fair financial aid decisions.

What are the standard school day hours?

The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 3:20 p.m.

Does Brebeuf offer before/after school care? Does Brebeuf offer afterschool activities?

Being a high school, we do not offer formal before/after care. However, students are welcome to arrive as early as 7:30 a.m. Additionally, students often stay after school to utilize various study spaces for homework, club meetings and socializing. Sports teams hold practices both prior to and following the school day (depending on the sport), and we have numerous student-led clubs and activities that meet during non-instruction hours.

Is there a uniform or dress code?

Brebeuf Jesuit does not have a uniform, but expects that all students will dress in a way that is appropriate for the school day or for any school-sponsored event.  More information can be found at brebeuf.org.

How many children attend Brebeuf? How many students are in the average classroom?

In any given year, our enrollment is about 800 students. The average class size is 18.

Does Brebeuf have a homework policy?

Homework is dependent on individual classes. However, through our 8-day cycle schedule, students have two PRTs (or Personal Responsibility Times) each day, as well as the potential for break periods, which they may use to complete homework during the school day. This schedule was designed specifically to help Brebeuf students to manage their work load and learn valuable time management skills.

Does Brebeuf offer support for students with special needs?

Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School, in its mission to educate and develop the whole person, provides academic support services through the Learning Center for students with a diagnosed learning difference.

Generally speaking, students who are admitted to the Learning Center have a language-based learning difference or ADHD and, as a result, struggle in the traditional classroom. The students in the Learning Center must have current psycho-educational testing completed by a licensed psychologist.

Students admitted to the Learning Center are expected to meet the curriculum standards required by Brebeuf Jesuit. However, students in the program may defer beginning classes for their World Language requirement until their sophomore year.

What specialty classes / extracurricular activities does Brebeuf offer?

Brebeuf students have a myriad of opportunities for out-of-class activities and unique class offerings that allow them to broaden their minds and worldviews.

We offer a variety of elective courses including visual and performing arts, speech, computer science, world languages, yearbook and newspaper, yoga and mindfulness, and much more. Extracurriculars include 37 athletic team opportunities ranging from football to golf, and ultimate frisbee to dance; completely student-led diversity dialogues; and over 50 clubs and co-curriculars in the areas of service, culture, tech, politics, games, leadership, and more.

The vast number and wide array of campus activities helps students find like-minded friends, participate in civil debate, develop artistic and athletic abilities, and share their hobbies, leading to growth and a better understanding of one another.
