BRICS is Celebrating 10 Years with Free Ice Cream!

In 2010, best friends David Vonnegut-Gabovitch and David DuBow set out to enrich the community they grew up in by establishing a place where families could come create sweet memories and happy times.

BRICS (Broad Ripple Ice Cream Station) would have delicious ice cream and exceptional customer service, while also being a good steward to the community by giving back and focusing on environmental sustainability.

10 years later, the BRICS owners are proud to say the mission has been fulfilled!

Over the past decade, BRICS has served over a million ice cream cones, employed over 350 team members and currently composts or recycles 90 percent of all waste generated in its operation. In 2017 BRICS expanded the business footprint from their 100+ year old former Monon Train Depot flagship location to include an antique French Citroen Van and custom trailer that caters weddings and corporate/community events.

The Davids say the most rewarding part of operating BRICS has been watching families grow up. First dates become couples, couples get married, children are born and each year they value being a part of these families and the larger Broad Ripple community. “It’s great to be the place that people are excited to come; happy to get a treat, enjoy an old building, and chill,” says David DuBow.

In 2020, being “THE PLACE TO CHILL” has brought on new challenges, but the BRICS owners are confident they can deliver an exceptional experience while upholding all COVID-19 safety measures. “We’ve always focused on cleanliness and safety in our operations. Our team members have always washed and gloved their hands after every customer transaction – adding in additional precautions like masks and temperature checks of our employees has been relatively easy,” says David Vonnegut-Gabovitch. “For now, our walk-up window is the safest way for us to serve our guests. We’ve social distanced the line and as restrictions are lifted, we will be adding outdoor seating that is placed 6 feet apart.”

To celebrate their 10th anniversary with the community, BRICS will be saying thank you to all their loyal customers with a full day of free ice cream! Join the fun on Sunday, May 31 from noon – 9pm. BRICS encourages visitors to support local COVID-19 relief efforts by making a small donation that will be split between the Indianapolis Art Center and the BRVA Rona Relief Fund. We all need something to celebrate!

Today, BRICS is owned jointly by David and Nonie Vonnegut-Gabovitch, David and Jenny DuBow and Kirstie Hayward.
