Do your kids like donuts? Do they like learning how things are made? Then your family is in for a treat! Jack’s Donuts of Carmel offers donut-making sessions for kids, plus tours of their kitchen where all the magic happens … and yes, it really is as fun and unique as it sounds. Learn How the Pros Make Donuts Each donut-making session includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the kitchen by a Jack’s Donuts staff member, where kids can see and learn about the big mixers and equipment that is used to make donuts. Each child then gets a chance to roll dough — their choice of either chocolate pastry dough or the standard white pastry dough — and practice sprinkling flour on the board, rolling out their dough and cutting out donuts or donut holes. Then the kids practice tossing their donuts onto a rack, just like the pros do. In the real world, the doughnuts would then be fried, but none of the donuts that the kids make are actually fried or eaten — it’s just a chance for kids to get their hands in the dough and practice! After everyone has washed their hands, the kids then get to sample a finished donut hole that was made fresh earlier that morning. Decorate Your Own Donut Next, the kids head to the front of the store where they can decorate their own long-john yeasted donut with vanilla frosting and sprinkles. It’s fun to see how each child decorates their donut differently! Then, kids can either eat their donut there in the store, or save it to take home with them. Kids can also pick out their own drink from the refrigerated case (chocolate or strawberry milk, apple juice or water). Each family also gets their own bag of a dozen glazed donut holes to take home. All of these things are included in the price. Know Before You Go It’s important to note that the donut-making sessions at Jack’s Donuts are only for groups of 6 kids or more. They do not offer these sessions on an individual basis. So, this would be a fun playdate outing for a group of friends, or for a Girl Scout troop, or even a small homeschool field trip. Each tour and donut-making session takes about 30 to 45 minutes from start to finish, and it is very hands-on, so it is really engaging and the perfect amount of time for young kids. It is recommended for kids ages 4 and up, but younger kids are accommodated. More Info Where: The donut-making sessions and tours are only offered at the Jack’s Donuts of Carmel: 516 E.
