2018 Jingle Rails at the Eiteljorg Museum

Visiting the Eiteljorg’s annual Jingle Rails exhibit is a holiday tradition for many families in Indianapolis. There’s something about the Christmas decorations adorning the museum, the model trains chugging by and the twinkling of holiday lights that really gets you in the holiday spirit. This season, the exhibit runs from Nov. 17 to Jan. 21, 2019.

U.S. Route 66

This year, The Eiteljorg has added a new model reproduction to the Jingle Rails exhibit: a representation of U.S. Route 66. This iconic highway carried motorists between Chicago and Los Angeles during the mid-20th century. The new addition passes notable tourist attractions from the route’s heyday, including the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Cadillac Ranch in Texas, Sinclair filling station with its signature dinosaur and Blue Swallow Motel in New Mexico — all depicted in miniature. The scene ends in California at the Pacific Park Pier with a dazzling fully operating illuminated Ferris wheel.

Landscapes near and far

Jingle Rails will also include a new addition to the Indianapolis portion of the exhibit. With a miniature Hilbert Circle Theatre building – home to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra – and a reproduction of the Indiana State Fair.

Jingle Rails will also feature some of their other popular and famous landscapes that visitors can walk through, around and under. New landscapes include reproductions of Lucas Oil Stadium, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, an Aspen ski resort, Hoover Dam, Golden Gate Bridge, and other landmarks. The scenes are constructed of all-natural materials – such as bark, acorns, pine cones, tree roots and honeycomb – and are decked out in holiday lights.

As part of the Jingle Rails experience, the Eiteljorg is also offering screenings of the holiday film The Polar Express on Dec. 15 and Dec. 21 at 2 pm.
